GRACE ALONE

Lord, we were orphans lost at the fall;

running away when we’d hear your call,

but Father, you worked your will.

We had no righteousness of our own.

We had no right to draw near your throne,

but Father, you loved us still.

And in love before you laid the world’s foundation,

you predestined to adopt us as your own.

You have raised us up so high above our station;

children of the King, by grace and grace alone.

You left your home to seek out the lost.

You knew the great and terrible cost,

but Jesus, your face was set.

Working our fingers down to the bone;

nothing we did could ever atone,

but Jesus, you paid our debt.

By your blood we have redemption and salvation.

Lord, you died that we might reap what you have sown;

and you rose that we might be your new creation.

We are born again by grace and grace alone.

We were in darkness all of our lives.

We never knew the day from the night,

but Spirit, you made us see.

We thought we knew the way on our own;

heads full of rocks and hearts made of stone,

but Spirit, you set us free.

At your touch our sleeping spirits were awakened.

On our darkened hearts the light of Christ has shone.

Called into a kingdom that cannot be shaken;

heaven’s citizens by grace and grace alone.

So we’ll stand in faith by grace and grace alone

We will run the race by grace and grace alone.

We will slay our sin by grace and grace alone.

We will reach the end by grace and grace alone.

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
