baptism

Some evangelical Christians believe in baptising infant members of Christian families so that their baptism is a sign of God’s covenant promises to them (they are known as paedobaptists). Other evangelical Christians believe only people professing faith in Jesus Christ should be baptised (they are known as credobaptists). We recognise that both positions are held on the basis of the bible and are consistent with the gospel. We do not want to make this a dividing issue and therefore accept as members of the church those who hold to either of these positions. We do, however, believe baptism matters. It is the act by which you join a church. So only people who have been baptised - either as children (if they are convinced of a paedobaptist position) or on profession of faith - can partake of the Lord’s Supper and become members of our church. We will baptise people who become convinced of a credobaptist position whose parents baptised them as children.
